An extraordinary micro-zone between Montefioralle and Panzano is the birthplace of this wine: fruit of meticulously selected grapes from naturally cultivated vineyards, boasting a full southern exposure of elevations between 300 and 450 meters above sea level. Naturally fermented and aged for 18 months in large barrels.
'Made with a blend of old-vine fruit (specifically, 70% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Ciliegiolo, 5% Malvasia and 5% Trebbiano), this is a very special wine from Isole delle Falcole that shows an elegant side to this combination of Tuscan grapes. The 2020 Vecchia Vigna (with 5,500 bottles released) offers fine aromas of blood orange, violet, candied cherry and fragrant lavender with wild hints of fresh mint. The wine's presentation is linear and precise, showing good depth and complexity. When I visited this estate last year, the young partners behind this venture were planting cherry trees on the perimeter of their small vineyard holdings.
